Using data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the report breaks down the key facts about injuries in the workforce.
Top Three Injury Events – Many types of workplace injuries result in injured employees taking time off work. The number one leading injury (the cause of 35% of injuries) leading to lost work days is Overexertion from lifting and lowering and other repetitive motions. Second is Contact with Objects and Equipment (the cause of 25% of injuries), which includes being struck by an object; caught in or compressed by equipment; or struck or crushed in a collapsing structure, equipment or material. The third leading injury leading to time off work is Slips, Trips & Falls (the cause of 25% of injuries) including falls to a lower level or the same level; tripping over equipment and debris; and slipping on wet or slippery surfaces.
